Six free cleaning schedule templates in Word. Three are organized by how often jobs come round, daily, weekly and monthly, and three are built for specific buildings: an office, a school and a restaurant kitchen. Each is an editable document with space to assign tasks and sign them off, so it works as a record and not just a plan.

Weekly Cleaning Schedule Template
Spreads the jobs across seven days instead of letting them pile into one long session. The format most households settle on, because an hour a day beats a lost Saturday.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 131 KB
- Best for: homes and shared houses
Daily Cleaning Schedule Template
One sheet per day for the jobs that cannot wait: surfaces, floors, bins, bathrooms. Has tick and initial columns, so it doubles as proof the work was done.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 1 MB
- Best for: daily sign-off records
Monthly Cleaning Schedule Template
For the jobs nobody does weekly: windows, oven, behind the appliances, skirting boards. Spread across the month so they do not all land on the same weekend.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 1 MB
- Best for: deep cleans and seasonal jobs
Office Cleaning Schedule Template
Organized by the areas an office actually has: desks, meeting rooms, kitchen, washrooms and reception, each with its own frequency rather than one blanket routine.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 150 KB
- Best for: offices and facilities teams
School Cleaning Schedule Template
Covers classrooms, corridors, halls, washrooms and canteen, and separates the work that has to happen between lessons from what waits until after the final bell.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 971 KB
- Best for: schools and nurseries
Restaurant Cleaning Schedule Template
Splits kitchen, prep areas, storage and front of house, with opening, closing and weekly tasks separated and space to initial each one as it is completed.
- File type: MS Word (ZIP)
- File size: 738 KB
- Best for: kitchens and food service
Which cleaning template should you pick?
If you are cleaning a home, choose by frequency. If you are cleaning a workplace, choose by building, because the areas and the standards are what drive the list.
| What you are cleaning | Use |
|---|---|
| A home, jobs spread over the week | Weekly Cleaning Schedule Template |
| Anywhere needing a daily record | Daily Cleaning Schedule Template |
| Deep cleans on a longer cycle | Monthly Cleaning Schedule Template |
| An office or commercial space | Office Cleaning Schedule Template |
| Classrooms and school buildings | School Cleaning Schedule Template |
| A kitchen or food premises | Restaurant Cleaning Schedule Template |
| Chores split between family members | The monthly household chores template, which assigns jobs to people rather than days |
Most people need two of these rather than one. A weekly sheet handles the routine, and a monthly sheet catches the jobs that would otherwise never get done at all. For workplaces, the daily sign-off sheet usually sits alongside the building-specific schedule: one proves the work happened today, the other defines what the work is.
How to build a cleaning schedule people actually follow
- Unzip the file and open it in Word. Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer and Apple Pages open it too.
- Walk the space and list the jobs before you assign any of them. Writing the list from memory at a desk is how the awkward corners get missed.
- Sort each job by how often it genuinely needs doing, not how often you feel it should. A schedule that demands more than is realistic gets abandoned in week two.
- Put a name against every task if more than one person is involved. Tasks assigned to everybody are done by nobody.
- Keep daily tasks to what fits the time available. If the closing routine takes forty minutes and staff have twenty, the list will be skipped rather than shortened.
- Add a tick box and an initial column. The difference between a plan and a record is one column, and in a workplace that column is what you show an inspector.
- Print it and put it where the work happens, on the back of a cupboard door or beside the sink. A cleaning schedule in a folder is not a cleaning schedule.
Common questions
What goes on a daily list versus a weekly or monthly one?
Daily covers anything affecting hygiene or usability right now: surfaces, floors in busy areas, bins, bathrooms, dishes. Weekly covers full-room cleaning such as vacuuming throughout, bed linen, mopping and dusting. Monthly covers the jobs that build up slowly, including windows, oven, fridge, skirting boards and behind furniture.
How do I split chores fairly in a shared house?
Assign by task rather than by day, and rotate the unpopular jobs on a fixed cycle so nobody is permanently stuck with the bathroom. Write the rota down and put it somewhere everyone passes. Most shared-house disputes come from an unwritten understanding rather than an unfair split.
Do these meet food hygiene or health and safety requirements?
They give you the structure, with tasks, frequencies and a sign-off column, which is usually what an inspector wants to see. The specific tasks and frequencies required differ by country and by local authority, so check your own regulations and add anything your rules require before relying on one.
Can I use one of these for a cleaning business?
Yes. Many cleaners use the office or restaurant templates as a client checklist, adding their logo and leaving a signature line at the bottom so the client can confirm completion. That turns the schedule into a simple record of service.
Why is the download a ZIP file?
The ZIP keeps the file size small. On a computer, double-click the downloaded file to extract the document inside. On a phone, you will need a file manager app that can open ZIP archives before the document will open in Word.
